SALEM, Va. – A Salem pastor is pleased with the community’s response after he stayed on top of his church’s roof for days without food to help encourage donations.
Tom McCracken stayed up on the roof of CommUNITY Church until Wednesday night, raising awareness for donations for bicycles to send to children in Houston dealing with the effects of hurricane Harvey.
The church has received 350 bikes so far, which totals around $30,000 in donations. McCracken hopes they can get 1,000 bikes to send to Texas.
“I think the bigger picture is, with all the evil and chaos and hate and division we have in this country right now, it’s awesome to see a community come together,” he said.
You can still donate. One hundred percent of the cash donations go to getting more bikes, which the group will ship to Houston Dec. 11 and distribute the next week.
