Be A Santa To A Senior aims to help elders in need

ROANOKE, Va. - The holiday season is upon us and the Home Instead senior care company has already kicked off its Be A Santa To A Senior event.

It is the time of year when organizations and nonprofits  focus on the senior citizens in need to make sure they get something for Christmas.

The seniors are given the opportunity to write their wish list of items they would like and need for the holidays. The tags are then typed up and placed on Christmas trees at several locations. These companies then adopt the seniors from the tags that are placed on the tree.

“It’s just a way for companies to be involved this holiday season and we have gotten several calls lately, saying, 'Can we have more tags?' because they are really supporting the program,” project coordinator Abby Head said.  “And unfortunately I don't have any more tags to give.”

If you would like to adopt a senior there are still tags available at certain locations for the community to adopt.

Just last year alone, between Roanoke and Lynchburg, more than 2,000 seniors received gifts from Be A Santa To A Senior program. If you would like to be a helper,Dec.5, there will be a gift wrapping event for all of the items received on.
