Thousands turn out for Black Friday deals in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. – From parking lot lines to checkout lines and everything in between, the Black Friday weekend is going strong in Roanoke.

"It's a lot of fun. It's a lot of craziness, but also a lot of fun," said Delena Jones.

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day in America. Last year, more than 100 million people across the country braved the crowds to shop.

But for many, Black Friday actually starts on Thursday. Stores like Belk, Best Buy and Target open their doors a little early to bring in more shoppers searching for deals.

"Last year, me and my sister came in first and she had received one of the coupons and it said $500 off a $500 purchase," said Lauren Rippee.

"We just love getting in the crowd and getting out there and getting all the sales we can get," said Justin Spencer.

Electronics are some of the more popular items to purchase on Black Friday. They typically see the most discounts. But for many people, it's not about the specific item, it's simply about saving money.

"The whole fun of it is just finding the deals and getting things cheap, presents cheap and then just being with family and friends, especially on Thanksgiving," said Teresa Epperly.

For some, it's a holiday tradition. For stores, it's a big boost for business.
