ROANOKE, Va. - First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe spoke at an event Friday in Roanoke that’s designed to coordinate efforts to fight hunger.
She came to an annual conference in Roanoke that’s held to coordinate efforts across our area. Several other people gave remarks and groups took part in breakout sessions.
Feeding America Southwest Virginia hosted the event to make sure food pantries, soup kitchens, faith-based groups, backpack programs and other groups communicate to find the best ways to provide food to people in need.
“When we align as partners and we all are doing the work together, and not just working in our silos, we have a much greater impact, and that’s been the joyful thing about the work that we’ve done," McAuliffe said.
She also discussed a statewide day to raise awareness and spur volunteer efforts called Feed VA Day of Action," which is scheduled for Sept. 29.
