Wells Fargo donates downtown Roanoke landmark

Building will likely change hands again soon

ROANOKE, Va. – A longtime landmark in downtown Roanoke has a new owner, but it will likely change hands again soon.

Last week, Wells Fargo donated the old First National Exchange Bank building on the corner of Campbell Avenue and Jefferson Street to a non-profit group.

Virginia Community Capital plans to sell the building. The money raised would be used to help small businesses in the region with loans and technical consulting.

The bank has sat empty for a while now.

VCC plans to hold meetings to get public input about how the building should be used. However, that decision will ultimately be left to the next buyer.
