BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. - Ashley Moxley's mother, Joyce Moxley can hardly speak or write after she was hit by a vehicle that left the scene near the Pepsi plant in Botetourt County.

“So she was hit in the back of the head. It directly impacted her head and made it bleed on her brain,” Ashley said.

Since the accident, Joyce Moxley, has been in critical condition at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital

“They had to remove part of her skull,” Ashley said.

Sgt. Rick Garletts, of the Virginia State Police, described the hit-and-run as highly disturbing.

“It concerns me that there's just complete disregard for humanity,” Garletts said.

As the search for the suspect continues, police have now identified the vehicle that left the scene.

“It's a General Motors truck or SUV,” Garletts said.

Ashley hopes the person responsible will come forward.

Although her mother has been moved out of the intensive care unit, Ashley says her life and her mother's will never be the same.

“The hard thing about traumatic brain injury is that there's no timeline or prediction that they can give you,” Ashley said.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked notify the Virginia State Police Salem Division.
