Animals move in to new Pittsylvania County animal shelter

Animals moved in over the weekend to help train employees

DANVILLE, Va. – Animals at the Pittsylvania County animal shelter are now in their new home.

The animals have been moved into the county's new shelter, which is scheduled to officially open to the public July 29.

The new shelter is larger, more modern and has air conditioning.

The Lynchburg Humane Society will be managing the shelter.

Executive Director Makena Yarbrough said the pets were moved in over the weekend in order for the employees to have plenty of time to train.

"We moved the dogs in in regards to training some of the staff. We have a number of staff members starting this week that still need to get trained, and a lot of them have been coming to our shelter in Lynchburg and working with staff members here," Yarbrough explained.

A grand opening ceremony will be held at noon on the 29th and the shelter will be open until 5 p.m.
