Court documents reveal more about Pittsylvania County homicide

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY – The car a 17-year-old boy suspected of killing another teenager is believed to have been driving after the shooting belonged to the suspect's mother, court documents reveal.

Prior to the shooting, the 17-year-old had told his mother he was going to Florida to visit family

Demetrius Brown, 18, was found in the middle of the street outside his home shot in the head on April 5.

Court documents also show a substance believed to be marijuana was found in his hand.

The 17-year-old suspect, whose name the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office has not released, was caught early the next morning in South Carolina.

According to the court documents, at the time he was arrested, the GPS on his cellphone indicated that he was 44 miles away from his destination, but court documents did not specify what that destination was.

He remains in jail in South Carolina, charged with first-degree murder.
