Danville school board chairwoman charged with attempted grand larceny, other charges

Charges filed against Dones by Commonwealth's Attorney

DANVILLE, Va. – Danville's School Board chairwoman faces multiple charges as part of a criminal investigation.

Sharon Dones is charged with attempted grand larceny and two counts of uttering forged receipts, the Commonwealth’s Attorney said Monday.

Danville Public Schools released this statement on behalf of School Board Vice Chairman Steven Gould:

"The Danville School Board is committed to transparency and honesty as we serve our schools, families and community. For this reason, I am sharing the news that Sharon Dones, the School Board Chairman, was charged with Attempted Grand Larceny and two charges of Uttering Forged Receipts by the Commonwealth’s Attorney today as a result of an investigation led by its office.

"I want to assure our employees, families and community that the work of the Danville School Board will continue to be focused on supporting student achievement, as always. Please note that since this is an ongoing legal matter, information will be limited until the legal process is completed."
