God's Storehouse uses anniversary to help store up food ahead of holidays

Food bank looks to collect 30,000 pounds of food on Oct. 28

DANVILLE, Va. – God's Storehouse is using its anniversary to help stock up ahead of the holiday season.

The food bank in Danville is trying to collect 30,000 pounds of food on Oct. 28.

Collection bins will be at grocery stores around Danville.

Volunteers are also needed to help manage the collection bins.

"We know typically we will see 200 and 300 people a day, particularly as we get closer to the holidays. So, that food will probably carry us through the holidays," God's Storehouse executive director Karen Harris said.

The food bank is also trying to collect $30,000 to help cover operating costs and a new roof.

Anyone who can't donate on Oct. 28 is welcome to drop off food or money at God's Storehouse.
