Henry County Sheriff's Office issuing reminder as fall hunting season begins

Hunters encouraged not to leave valuables in car while hunting

HENRY COUNTY, Va. – As the fall hunting season gets underway, the Henry County Sheriff's Office is reminding hunters to protect their belongings.

The sheriff's office encourages hunters to not leave valuables, especially guns, in their cars while out hunting.

Henry County Sheriff's Office Lt. Col. Steve Eanes says that in the past hunters have reported items stolen.

"Just kind of common sense. Don't take anything extra, more than what you need, and if you leave it in, put it in the trunk or cover it up or do something. Make sure you lock all your doors," Eanes explained.

He also encourages hunters to not leave gear in their car overnight in preparation for going hunting the next morning.
