PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY - The Lynchburg Humane Society could run Pittsylvania County's long-awaited new animal shelter.

The county is considering the option as a way to save money.

The county would still own the building and be responsible for utilities and maintenance.

A public hearing will be held on June 5 to discuss the idea.

The shelter is scheduled to open in July.
