Martinsville, Henry County teens serve Thanksgiving meals to thousands

Meals served at Martinsville High School

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Teens in Southside are continuing a tradition of making sure people have an opportunity to get a Thanksgiving meal.

The Harvest Youth Board served free Thanksgiving meals at Martinsville High School Wednesday to anyone who wanted one.

Around 1,800 meals were also delivered to people who couldn't get to the high school.

That's more than all of the meals served in 2016.

For Harvest Youth Board member Jeremiah Witt, this was his first time experiencing the event and he enjoyed it.

"It's pretty exciting. It's a good feeling," Witt said.

"I, earlier, sat down with a few people and they shared a cool story. He was telling me about his days as a fireman. It just shows you how life can go one way when you expected it to go another way."

The meals included all of the traditional items, like turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
