Martinsville police identify woman found dead behind BB&T

There's no word yet on whether foul play is suspected.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – UPDATE

Martinsville police have identified the woman whose body was found in the woods Thursday afternoon.

Martinsville resident Katherine White Liken was 53. 

A medical examiner in Roanoke will determine her official cause of death.

ORIGINAL STORY 

Martinsville police are investigating after a woman's body was found behind a bank Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 4:25 p.m. officers discovered the body of a middle-aged white woman over an embankment behind the BB&T Bank on Ellsworth St. Her body was in the woods between Ellsworth St. and Cleveland Ave. 

The police chief says that it's being treated as a homicide until it can be ruled otherwise, which is standard operating procedure. There's no word yet on whether foul play is suspected. 

Police have not identified the woman publicly. They are working to contact her next of kin.
