Martinsville SPCA struggling to find homes for puppies dumped in landfill in August

SPCA believes puppies' breed may be keeping people from adopting them

HENRY COUNTY, Va. - More than a month after being put up for adoption, two puppies left at the Henry County landfill are still in need of a forever home.

According to the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA, a few people have expressed interest in the dogs but no one has actually filled out an adoption application.

The puppies were extremely emaciated and near death when they were found in August but are now recovering well.

They are Staffordshire terriers, which SPCA donor relations coordinator Catherine Gupton said many people classify as pit bulls, and that may be why they're not getting adopted.

"They are fabulous dogs. They are incredibly loving. If you didn't hear their back story, you wouldn't know that they had come from anything but a loving, amazing home," Gupton explained.

If you're interested in adopting the dogs, contact the SPCA.
