One flown to hospital after Bassett apartment fire

Three families have been displaced

BASSETT, Va. - One person was severely injured in a fire at an apartment complex in Bassett on Thursday night.

Multiple fire departments responded after 6 p.m. to the blaze on Mary Hunter Drive.

Fire officials said the the complex was fully engulfed when they arrived. 

"When we arrived, we had heavy fire showing from the unit on the end. Since then, it has spread to the second apartment," said Bassett Fire Chief Junior Lynch.

One person was flown from the scene with severe burns. 

Three families have been displaced and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
