Pittsylvania County farmer named best in Southeast

Robert Mills won the award at the annual Sunbelt Ag Expo this week

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – A Pittsylvania County farmer is now considered the best in the entire Southeastern United States.

Robert Mills won the award at the annual Sunbelt Ag Expo in Georgia this week.

He became a finalist for the award by being named Virginia Farmer of the Year earlier this year.

In his acceptance speech, Mills said he hopes to use his experience to inspire future farmers.

"I've spent most of my life traveling and speaking, trying to inspire young people through the adversity that I faced in being a young farmer that didn't have anything," Mills said.

Mills is the first farmer from Pittsylvania County and the third from Virginia to ever claim the title of Southeast Farmer of the Year.
