BLACKSBURG,Va. - One in four women will be a victim of severe physical violence by someone they trust.

October is domestic violence awareness month, and the Alpha Chi Omega sorority chapter is hosting a fundraiser for the Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley.

The women’s resource center offers services and support for women in crisis, including  those who have been victims of domestic violence.

“Over the past year, the center was called around 400 times to the hospital for domestic violence and sexual assault cases,” said Pat Brown, executive director at the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley.

Sundee's Best boutique and the Alpha Chi Omega chapter are collecting donations of food items and clothing for the center.

The boutique will be offering 35 percent off its items to anyone who brings in approved donations.  Some of the few approved donations include juice, non-perishable food, sweatpants, children's clothing and baby formula.

“I think it’s important for the community to know about domestic violence, because we are on a college campus and there is going to be some sexual assaults and things like that, said Caroline Blackmore, fall 2017 internal philanthropy chair for Alpha Chi Omega.

If you missed the fundraiser today, there will be another percentage-off day on October 20th. If you wish to donate click here. Also, if you know someone facing domestic violence, be sure to click the link for more information.
