Storm causes power outages, road closures

Several schools are on delays Tuesday morning

Monday night's storm is affecting roads and causing power outages Tuesday morning. Several schools are on an altered schedule. We'll keep this list updated on the latest conditions.

Road closures 

Localized flooding, downed trees and debris are all issues to anticipate Tuesday morning, especially in the New River Valley.

There are dozens of road closures. Click here for a list from the Virginia Department of Transportation. 

Power outages 

More than 7,600 Appalachian Power customers in Virginia are without electricity, as of 4:30 a.m. The largest outages are in Carroll and Grayson counties. Crews are working to restore power to those areas. The company is giving 11:59 p.m. Tuesday as the estimate for restoration.

Dominion Power is reporting nearly 5,000 customers without power Tuesday morning, but most of those outages are not affecting our area. There is a minor outage in Appomattox County that is impacting fewer than 20 customers.
