State trooper shot in arm after routine traffic stop

A woman is in Virginia State Police custody.

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A state trooper is recovering after being shot in the arm Tuesday night in Henrico County. 

Troopers in Henrico County stopped a car for driving 87 mph in a 60 mph zone. As a trooper approached the car, it sped away. 

State police followed the car, cornering it at a dead end. When approaching the car, the driver got out and shot an officer in the arm before running away, according to Virginia State Police. 

A second trooper chased the driver and took her into custody. 

The injured trooper is at VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The incident remains under investigation.
