LYNCHBURG, Va. - Wreaths Across America is an annual ceremony that has grown in Lynchburg over the years.

Nearly 1,000 people came to the Old City Cemetery to honor veterans served in times of war and peace.

It's very exciting to see all the people who participated today in uniforms,” Elaine Roy, an attendee, said.

The message was to remember, honor and teach.

Veteran David Stokes, who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war, shared what sacrifice means to him.

“The United States is the land of the free, but we've never been free. We have been fighting since the beginning of time,” Stokes said.

Veterans from all branches of the armed forces were honored with the laying of a wreath.
