Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

Star City Motor Madness comes to Roanoke's Williamson Road this weekend.  People will line the street, watching classic and special interest cars drive up and down the drag Friday night starting at 6 p.m.  The Car and Truck Show takes place in downtown Roanoke Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Hundreds of cars and after market vendors will be on display.

The Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection holds an adoption event today.  June through August is peak season for the shelter.  Currently it has 100 dogs, with half of them ready for adoption.  There are plenty of cats as well.  The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at PetSmart on Franklin Road.

Former astronaut and NFL player Leland Melvin holds a book signing today.  He will be at the Liberty University Bookstore signing copies of "Chasing Space" starting at 1:30 p.m.  The book is a memoir, telling of Melvin's determination to overcome injury and succeed.  He is the only person to catch a pass in the NFL and in space.

Several events are happening today in Greenbrier County to commemorating the deadly flooding that happened one year ago today.  Twenty-three people died in West Virginia because of the water.  Today, a memorial service takes place at Old Mill Park.  There is a ribbon cutting at Nicely Park and Brad Paisley Park, as well as a community picnic.

The Wytheville Community College Dental Hygiene Clinic holds an oral health assessment day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Cleanings and treatments will not be done, but patients will get an oral health review and schedule an appointment for cleanings during the fall semester.
