(WSLS 10) - Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia will induct two business leaders into the Southwest Virginia Business Hall of Fame. The new inductees will join 53 other people who are have previously been inducted.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission holds a public session today in Pittsylvania County about the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The government agency issued its Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the project in September. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at Chatham High School. Another meeting takes place in Rocky Mount on Wednesday and Roanoke on Thursday.
Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center patients who receive care at the Tazewell Family Physician Clinic will receive services in a new location starting today. The clinic did not renew its contract with the VA. Services will now be provided by Tazewell Community Hospital.
The Roanoke County Sheriff's Office begins a fundraiser today for Special Olympics. For $25 a month or a one time fee of $100, male deputies can grow a beard. Female deputies can color a small portion of their hair an exotic color or wear fingernail polish.
A Saving Our Youth event takes place today. Several law enforcement agencies will take part in the "21st Century Policiting: Saving Our Youth" discussion, which includes information from President Obama's Report on 21st Century Policing, gun safety and violence reduction. This event begins at 6 p.m. at William Fleming High School.
The Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation holds an information session about the Community College Access Program tonight. The program makes tuition free for students with a certain grade point average who meet financial requirements. Tonight's meeting takes place at Salem High School starting at 6 p.m.
Nine contestants will compete tonight for their share of $8,000 in the second Floyd C4 Business Development Center and Challenge. The contestants will pitch their business plans tonight to a panel of judges. Business ideas include food and drink, clothing, ceramics, counseling services and tiny houses.
