Round Town: wizardry and runs

Events taking place this weekend

The Harry Potter Festival comes to downtown Roanoke.  Celebrate the popular book and movie series throughout the day on Saturday.  Enjoy food, entertainment, the Three Broomsticks Beer Garden and more.  Events are centered at Market Square, but there are several other destinations helping to spread the magic downtown.  On Friday night, head downtown for Movies in the Market, where Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will play at dusk.

The Safety Fun Day Expo returns to Philpott Lake.  There will be safety demonstrations and information, as well as music, train rides a cake walk and more.  It's Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lake's overlook.

Take the kids fishing Saturday in Wythe County.  Kids Fish Day gives children under the age of 15 the opportunity to fish in freshly stocked waters.  Fishing hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Cripple Creek/Collins Cove Section.  Other kids fishing events take place in Floyd, Pulaski and Botetourt Counties.

Find a new treasure at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center's community yard sale.  It's open from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Take in a baseball game in Martinsville this weekend.  Hooker Field is the home of the Division I Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament for the National Club Baseball Association.  Games start Friday and run through Sunday.  Admission starts at $5.

Gallop 4 the Greenways Saturday and support the network of walking and biking trails.  There's a four-mile gallop, greenway walk and Greenway Adventure Triathlon, where you will run the greenway, paddle down the Roanoke River and bike up and down Mill Mountain.  Registration starts at $20.  Stick around for the post-race party after the races.
