Events happening this weekend

Head to downtown Roanoke for First Fridays.  McKenzie's Mill will take to the stage.  In addition to the music, there's food and drinks.  Admission is $5 with proceeds supporting local charities.

It's a big weekend for shopping in Hillsville at the Labor Day Flea Market and Gun Show.  A half a million people are expected to shop for antiques, coins, comics, clothes and more.  Shop til you drop from Friday through Monday.

The Salem Civic Center is home to the 30th annual Roanoke Valley Mopar Car Show.  Enjoy the classic cars, swap meet, silent auction and more.  It's Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Vehicle registration is $25 with those coming to look around getting in for free.  Proceeds benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Downtown Roanoke hosts a Labor Day Parade on Saturday.  Celebrate the achievements of America's working people.  The parade steps off at 11 a.m. From Lee Plaza.

The Virginia Museum of Transportation fires up the 611 this weekend.  You can hear stories from experts and get a tour of the cab and blow the whistle.  You can get tickets the museum on Saturday and Sunday. 

Buena Vista holds its annual Labor Day Festival.  The event features a parade, political speeches, entertain and ends with fireworks.  Events start at 8 a.m. with the parade at 9:30 a.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m.
