Round Town: beer and chili

Events happening Round Town this weekend.

Salem Civic Center is home to Geek mob.  It's a family-friendly comic book convention.  This year there will be more games and panels as well as an evening concert, in addition to music and vendors.  It's Saturday from 1 p.m. to midnight.  Tickets are $15 for adults with kids ages 6 to 17 getting in for $10.  Part of the proceeds go to the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center.

Smith Mountain Lake holds its annual Fall Chili and Craft Festival on Saturday.  In addition to the food, there's music and crafts.  It's Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Bridgewater Plaza.  Admission is $5.

Salem Memorial Ballpark is home to the Salem Sox Beer Festival.  There will be local and seasonal beer and cider from Soaring Ridge, Parkway Brewery, Deschutes and more.  You can buy a wristband for 10 pours for $25 and 20 pours for $35 at the gate.  Designated drivers get in for $5.  It's Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

The fall Bridge Street Food Truck Rodeo is this weekend in Danville.  More than twenty food trucks will be there, serving a variety of dishes.  It's Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.

The Patriot Players at Patrick Henry Community College presents Into the Woods.  It follows a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child, Cinderella wants to attend the King's Festival and Jack wants his cow would give milk.  Everyone's wish is granted, but their actions return to haunt them later.  There are shows tonight through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.  Tickets are $20 at the door.

Raise the Woof in Blacksburg and help local animals.  The Montgomery County Friends of Animal Care and Control holds the comedy show to raise money to care for animals at the center.  In addition to the comedy show, there also a raffle, silent auction and cash bar.  Tickets are $40.  It's Saturday at 7:30 at the Hyatt Place-University City Blvd.
