Round Town: Christmas parade

Events happening this weekend.

The town of Vinton's Christmas Parade kicks off tonight.  The town's tree will be lit at 6 p.m. with the parade starting at 7 p.m.  More than 100 groups have entered.  The parade ends at the War Memorial where you can visit with Santa and enjoy entertainment and refreshments.

Christmas cheer returns to downtown Roanoke at Dickens of a Christmas.  Start your holiday shopping as food, art and craft dealers will set up.  The city's Christmas Tree will be lit at 6:20 p.m. Friday.

The town of Blacksburg will light its Christmas tree Friday night.  The town's annual holiday parade will also take place that night at 7 p.m.

Head to midtown Lynchburg Sunday for the city's annual Christmas Parade.  The theme for this year's event is "A Rockin' 50s Christmas."  The parade steps off at 4 p.m.

The city of Salem kicks off the holiday season this weekend.  On Friday, head downtown for the tree lighting at 6 p.m. with the parade at 6:30 p.m.  On Saturday, the Salem Public Library holds its Gingerbread Festival, where you can get your picture taken with Santa and enjoy kids activities and marshmallow roasting.

The Floyd Center for the Arts holds its annual Winterfest Arts and Crafts Festival.  Local artisans and vendors will set up, selling locally made art, jewelry, ceramics and more.  It's Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Jefferson Choral Society holds a holiday concert.  More than 90 singers and a chamber orchestra will perform tradition and popular carols and choruses from Handel's Messiah.  There is a concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. at Heritage United Methodist Church in Lynchburg.

The city of Danville holds its annual parade on Sunday.  The theme of this year's event is "Peace on Earth."  It begins at 3 p.m. on Main Street.

Jump onboard the Candy Cane Express.  Visit with Santa and enjoy a train ride at the Virginia Museum of Transportation.  There's also a scavenger hunt, food, music and more.  It's Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Regular admission rates to the museum apply with tickets for train rides are $3.
