Round Town: Holiday events

Events happening this weekend.

Dickens of a Christmas returns to downtown Roanoke this weekend.  Do some shopping with vendors who are set up.  New this year, you can enjoy rides at the Dickens Winter Carnival.  All you can ride wrist bands are $5.  Then Saturday at 6 p.m., enjoy the annual Christmas parade.  

The town of Buchanan holds its Christmas Parade on Saturday.  Enjoy the floats, decorated cars and see Santa Clause.  The parade begins at noon on Main Street.  After the parade, get your picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The Jingle Bell Run is this weekend in downtown Roanoke.  The 5K raises money for the Arthritis Foundation.  It's Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Avoca Museum in Altavista holds its annual Christmas Open House this weekend.  Tour the Victorian home, where you'll find each room decorated.  There's also entertainment and refreshments.  It's Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is $5.

The Community Holiday Light Show begins this weekend at Danville's Ballou Park.  Displays for the show are made by people and groups in the community.  The lights are on from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.  Admission is $7 per car.

Patrick Henry Community College is home to the Patriot Player Christmas Spectacular.  The holiday themed music revue features the school's jazz band and more.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  There are shows Thursday through Saturday nights at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Holiday Pops.  The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at the Salem Civic Center.  Tickets start at $32.

Head to downtown Salem for Salem Crafty Christmas.  More than 40 crafters will set up and Parkway Brewing will be there as well.  In addition to the shopping, you can also register to win door prizes.  It's 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street.
