Round Town: shopping and holiday cheer

Events happening this weekend.

Dickens of a Christmas returns to downtown Roanoke this weekend.  Do some shopping with vendors who are set up.  You can also play in the snow at the Snow Zone and bring your pet and enter it into the pet costume contest.  Activities run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Patrick Henry Community College is home to the Patriot Player Christmas Spectacular.  The holiday themed music revue features the school's jazz band and more.  Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  There are shows Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Monster Indoor Flea Market returns to the Berglund Special Events Center.  Explore the treasures up for sale at the hundreds of booths.  It's Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Admission is free.

Support the Jefferson Choral Society while doing some holiday shopping at the Holiday Makers' Market.  There's artwork, crafts, jewelry and more up for sale.  In addition, there's breakfast, lunch, baked goods and door prizes.  It's Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Moose Lodge 715 in Lynchburg.

Help end child abuse at the Johnny CASA 5 miles and 5K walk/run.  The race is Saturday in Rocky Mount.  Registration is $30 the day of the race.  It starts at 9 a.m. with proceeds going to the Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center.

Enjoy a stroll at Natural Bridge at the annual Luminary Lights.  Cedar Creek Trail will be lined with luminaries and lit with festival colors.  Admission is $2 per person and $5 for a family.  It's lights are lit from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Head to downtown Buchanan Saturday for its annual Christmas market and parade.  The Market runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The parade is at noon.
