The playoff stakes got higher on Friday night, and Lord Botetourt turned to a freshman sensation to get a jump on Magna Vista.
Running back Hunter Rice bounced back from an ankle injury to lead the way for the Cavaliers against Magna Vista in the Class 3D region semifinals. Rice was the point of the spear of coach Jamie Harless's power offense, galloping for 161 yards on 27 carries for three touchdowns. The Cavs move to the region finals with a 42-14 win.
