WSLS Anchor John Carlin visited The Neighbors Place restaurant in Lynchburg before the Jefferson Forest vs. Brookville high school football game Friday, Sept. 26 to get a first-hand look at one of the town's favorite traditions.

The Neighbors Place is a bit more of an upscale restaurant than the average mom-and-pop place, but it's locally owned and features good American food. And it lives up to its claim of southern hospitality.

Chicken Marsala is one of my favorites. Can't find it anywhere else the way that it is here. Skirt Steak -- people come in on the weekends just for that. People go crazy about it," said Tracei Lowe, a server at the restaurant.

Located in the Wyndhurst Community of Lynchburg and essentially between Jefferson Forest and Brookville it was a good spot for this week's Taste of Your Town, with fans from both schools stopping by on game night.

"We have people come it all through the night.  Partying, faces painted," said Lowe.

Tracie tells me they recently changed the menu, flexibility she points out that chain restaurants do not have.  I accepted her recommendation to try the cheese steak -- which she described as,  a brand new cheese steak.  We have a whole new griddle for it. Comes on a hoagie roll and choice of sides.  You're gonna love it."

She was right.  It was one of those, "melt in your mouth" sandwiches that tasted as good as it looked.  Ditto for the waffle fries that came covered with Old Bay seasoning.

And as a bonus, Tracei told me as I was leaving, that I was sitting in the same seat Britney Spears sat in when she visited the restaurant earlier this year.
