Former Spartan Coulling Impresses in VMI Scrimmage
LEXINGTON (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- VMI held its first spring scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Fiorini Field. Returning Starting quarterback Al Cobb finished 7 of 11 passing for 47 yards and a score(in a red-zone situational play).
But the majority of the work fell to Redshirt freshman Austin Coulling. The former Salem Spartan standout was 8 of 15 for 85 yards, including a 20-yard strike to former Hidden Valley standout Mason Dermott.
"I'm thrilled to death where Austin Coulling is--He's way ahead of schedule. He just needs to play and so we wanted him to get majority of the majority of reps today but he's way ahead. He's a solid second team quarterback. Very happy, very happy where he is right now and we got a lot of practices left before we play a game," explains second year coach Scott Wachenheim.
VMI resumes spring practice on Tuesday, April 18 at 4:30 p.m. and will hold another scrimmage next Saturday, April 16.
