Salem Edges Byrd for Conference 24 Baseball Crown

SALEM (WSLS-10 SPORTS) -Salem edged William Byrd 3-1 in a battle of baseball teams that are poised to make deep runs in the postseason. Salem got out to a 2-0 lead at Kiwanis field after John Stover drove an RBI double to left field in the 4th. William Byrd got one back in the 5th when Cameron Lynch hit an RBI - to score Macon Hale and it was 2-1. But  Salem got a bases loaded walk to add another run, and they go on to the Conference 24 title 3-1. Coach Wesley McMillian had some words of wisdom for his team after the win.

"Be ready 'cause it'll get harder each game.  It's going to get tougher and they're excited these are winners. These guys are state champion football players-- about half my team is made up of football players. They love the game and love to compete and that makes it so interesting and so much fun, " explained coach McMillian.

Both Salem and William Byrd advance to the region tournament next week.
