ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Patrick Henry lacrosse team advanced to the region final with a 16-6 win over Douglas Freeman Tuesday at home. The Patriots get an automatic bid to the state tournament.

"It's kind of been our ammo all year, since the states last year, to get back to where we were and finishing the job this time. Last year we walked off the field and thought we could've played better than we did, so the whole off-season that's all we talked about was getting back to states," said head coach Josh Wilkinson.

"The goal is just to win a state championship, that's what everyone's going for. I'm not even really focused on winning regionals, I just want the championship and get a state ring," explained Brice Johnson, who dominated face-offs in the victory.

Senior Christian Blackwell agreed, "our whole goal has been to make it back to states and get that accomplished. This is the deepest team I've ever been a part of, this is my fifth year in this program, first one being on JV, fourth year on varsity. I've never been on a team so deep."

Patrick Henry will face Atlee in the 5A South region boys final.
