SW Virginia Crowns Three VHSL State Tennis Singles Champs
LYNCHBURG (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- At Liberty University, Fallon Delp of Cave Spring wins gold--her first ever 3A state singles title with a 6-2 6-4 over Natasha Novak of York.
James Baron of Hidden Valley wins the 3A boys singles title with a win over rival Matty Ducker of Blacksburg 7-5 6-4. And in 1A tennis from Radford University, Radford's Samantha Brooks repeats as girls singles champ, blasting Northampton's Angela Head 6-0 6-2.
"I played the same girl that I played this morning on Monday so I've been working pretty hard the last couple days to find tune some things. I think today when I stepped out on the court all those things that I have been struggling with really seem to click," explains the girls 3A champion Fallon Delp.
The area also added a pair of silver medals in addition to Ducker's effort for Blacksburg. In girls 4A Liberty Christian Academy's Eli Gallier falls to Jamestown's Anna Walter 6-3 6-1. And in Boys 4A, EC Glass's Luc Mortenmousque fell in a third set tiebreaker to Parker Wilson of Handley.
Doubles titles are on the line on Friday with team competition set to conclude on Saturday at both sites.
