Salem Red Sox to host 2017 Carolina League All-Star Classic

SALEM (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - The Salem Red Sox announced Wednesday that for the first time since 2006, the Carolina League All-Star Classic is returning to Salem.

Salem Red Sox General Manager Ryan Shelton and city officials revealed the All-Star logo. The game will take place at Lewis Gale field in June 2017. A hitting challenge will take place the day before the game and will be held at Kiwanis Field. The challenge is expected to be the biggest event Kiwanis Field has hosted since the USA Women's national softball team visited in 2008.

"A little over year ago we started working with the Carolina League president and the Board of Directors to secure this event so it's been a lot of work and planning to get it here and now we have a year ahead of us to make it the best event we've ever had here with Salem baseball," said Shelton.

The game will feature All-Stars from all eight of the Carolina League teams. The hitting challenge at Kiwanis Field will be June 19. The Carolina League All-Star Classic will be June 20th, 2017 at Lewis Gale Field in Salem.
