Jay Woodson wins Delta Dental State Open

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

The Delta Dental State Open wrapped up Saturday at Ballyhack Golf Club. For the past four years there has only been two different champions, Jay Woodson and Lanto Griffin.

Entering Saturday's final round Virginia Tech's Mark Lawrence Jr. was the leader at 9-under par. As things winded down three-time champ Jay Woodson birdied 3 of his last 4 holes before picking up a par on 18. He would finish at 8 under.

Down the stretch it was neck and neck between Lawrence Jr. and Griffin. On the 18 Lawrence Jr had to hit from the bunker, scoring a bogey. Griffin on the other hand, picked up a par forcing a three-way tie at 8-under. Woodson, Lawrence Jr. and Griffin play the 18 two times before Woodson hits a birdie during the second playoff hole. He is your 2016 Delta Dental State Open champion.

"This was a tough one I didn't really struggle to the end of the tournament. The first round I was really not playing well, tee to green", said Griffin.

"To be able to bounce back after going to start like that and being so far behind it's nice to see yourself through that and it really boost of confidence before even in any tournaments after."

This is Woodson fourth time winning the State Open. He won three years in a row from 2012 through 2014.
