Men's preliminary: Huber/Seidl (AUT) vs. Jefferson/Cherif (QAT)

As all teams in Pool F held one and one loss, the winners of today's matches automatically advance to the Round of 16. Austria's Huber/Seidl took the first set 21-18. Qatar bounced back to take the second set 21-19. Jefferson/Cherif took the third and final set to win 18-21, 21-19, 15-12. Qatar will advance to the Round of 16.
Men's preliminary: Gibb/Patterson (USA) vs. Herrera/Gavira (ESP)

Pool F was left wide open after the first two days of preliminary matches saw all teams in the pool take one win and one loss. Day 5's match winners would automatically advance to the Round of 16 while match losers would wait for pool play to finish to see if they qualify for a last chance lucky loser match. Spain took the first set 21-19. The U.S. men rallied back to take the second set 21-16. In the third and final set the U.S. men lost momentum after Spain challenged a play, forcing the match to stop for several minutes as both teams pushed back on the referee's call. Herrera/Gavira took the third set to win 21-19, 16-21, 15-7. Spain will advance to the Round of 16.
Women's preliminary: Meppelink/Van Iersel (NED) vs. Bawden/Clancy (AUS)

The Netherlands and Australia, the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively, entered the match with two preliminary wins under their belt. In a tough first set, the Australians narrowly edged out Meppelink/Van Iersel 27-25, closing with an ace from Louise Bawden. Bawden/Clancy took an early lead in the second set before the Dutch women closed to tie at 7-7. The Australian women gained a two-point lead at 10-8. Meppelink/Van Iersel bounced back after the first technical timeout of the second set to tie at 12-12. The Dutch women pulled ahead, gaining a two-point lead after two consecutive failed blocks by Louise Bawden. Meppelink/Van Iersel took the second set 21-18. The Australian women rallied back to take the third set, winning 27-25, 18-21, 16-14. Louise Bawden and Taliqua Clancy win their pool and will advance to the Round of 16.
