UVA Choses Transfer Benkert as New QB
CHARLOTTESVILLE (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- Junior transfer Kurt Benkert has won the starting quarterback job at Virginia, beating out seniors Matt Johns and Connor Brewer Both are listed at number two right now.
Benkert comes to UVA from East Carolina where he was named the starter for the Pirates before suffering a season ending knee injury in fall camp.
"When I look at a quarterback what I look first and foremost for is do they move the team into the end zone because points determine the outcome and Kurt has been the one that I think has consistently and can continue to be consistent in terms of moving our team forward. He's a good decision maker with a very strong arm and has natural leadership skills," explains head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
"I'm just ready to go play and have fun it's been a lot of work a lot of hard work and a lot of long days and just to finally be able to get on the field I mean just have fun doing what all this hard work is for," says new UVA starter Kurt Benkert.
Virginia opens with Richmond in September 3rd.
