Cave Spring high school held it's 13th annual Knights Crossing cross country invitational. The event is one of the largest in southwest Virginia. It features more than 1800 runners- some from West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Nearly all of our local schools were on hand as well. Very humid morning on Saturday as runners took off through Green Hill park. In the girls varsity 5k race, Noelle Palmer of LCA came in first with a time of 18:21.3. On the boys side it was Connor Lane of Cardinal Gibbons. He ran a new meet record of 15:21. Coming in first as a team for the girls was the always impressive and dominant Blacksburg high school. They talked about their win after the race.
"It's definitely really hard especially out here with the heat and when it's just the beginning of the season we're getting used to running a 5k races again", said Samantha Marin.
"I think when you have your teammates behind you and you know you're going into it running for your teammates and not for yourself it really helps you pull through."
