Northside looking for first boys basketball state title

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - It's been a long time coming but the Northside Viking will play for championship gold in Richmond Friday. They will play IC Norcom in hopes of winning the schools first ever basketball championship.

The Vikings have excelled on the floor all season, mostly led by sophomores and juniors. The team has proven it can play in tough environments and come out with wins. They've knocked off big name schools like Western Albemarle, John Marshall and Phoebus en route to the big game. They're excited for the opportunity but know that the last game is the one that counts the most.

"What we know, what lies in front of us and it's a great challenge and we just looking at a great challenges are great gifts," said head coach Bill Pope.

"Do what we've been doing. Just don't try to do too much and you don't try to be too selfish. Get everybody involved and do what we do," forward Shey Webb added.

Vikings guard Nick Price explained, "It means a lot we really like getting there and because we work hard enough and we got there and it is just a great feeling."

Tipoff is 4:30pm Friday at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
