Big Weekend Ahead for Dawgs

ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

As the season winds down the Rail Yard Dawgs have a huge weekend ahead as they look for a late push to clinch their first ever playoff spot in franchise history.

The team has had to overcome multiple injuries and call-ups throughout the season but through it all, team chemistry has managed to help them get to this point. The Dawgs have seven games left on the schedule three of them at home against Columbus. The Cottonmouths currently have a one point lead over the Dawgs for the eighth and final playoff spot. Coach Sam Ftorek says from this point on the motto is simple.

"Its do or die. Coming into the season we wanted to make the playoffs we wanted to make a push and now we have a chance", said Ftorek.

"We kind of control our own destiny behind Columbus by a point and we play them two games this weekend and one more before the end of the season so if we sweep that series we're in a good position."

Center Steve Mele added, "The only thing we can control is how we play. We can't hope for other teams to lose or we can hope for it but we just can't control that so we're going to just control what we can control and try to win the last seven games and get as many points as we could".

The puck will drop at 7:05 on Friday and Saturday at the Berglund Center. Saturday is also fan appreciation night.
