Larson Turning a Corner at Martinsville

RIDGEWAY (WSLS 10 SPORTS) -

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series rolls back into Martinsville on Sunday and one car already catching attention is the 42 of Kyle Larson.

He comes to the paperclip on a hot streak sitting at the top as the points leader. He finished second for three weeks in a row before his victory at Fontana last weekend.

"Really cool to be the points leader still and having the speed that we have. Hopefully we can keep it going and have a good weekend here at Martinsville", said Larson.

In the past Larson has not ran well at Martinsville but he took a turn for the better in 2016, when he finished third in the spring race and fourteenth in the fall. He admits its a track he once dreaded but now not so much.

Larson explained, "I was thinking about this last night. Normally I'm depressed driving up here to Martinsville because I suck but I've gotten better lately so I actually enjoy this place some so I get kind of excited coming up here."

Nine time Martinsville winner Jimmie Johnson said Larson's success is something that's been in the making.

"We've all known that he's been highly talented and just waiting for him and the team to get to their winning ways and it looks like they're there. With all the top two's and then cleaning house last weekend he's well on his way."

Larson hopes that he can keep his hot streak going on Sunday and keep his run at the paperclip clean.
