Patriots' Hutchinson Wins Don Holliday Scholarship

Largest golf scholarship awarded in the Commonwealth

ROANOKE, Va. –     The largest charitable, golf-related scholarship in the Commonwealth was awarded Thursday at Roanoke Country Club.  The Don Holliday memorial scholarship is a  4-year, $30,000 award that is administered by the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame. The scholarship has a multi-layered selection process.

This year's winner was Patrick Henry High School's Paul Allen Hutchinson.

"The biggest thing my dad said was, 'be yourself' so I just went through the application just trying to be myself. I wanted the committee to get to know me, same thing with the interview, I wanted them to get to know me, and they liked me," Hutchinson says.

The senior played two years of football, and was a standout member of the golf team for the past two years, as well. He was also a member of the rugby club. Hutchinson is headed to Virginia Tech to study busines, and holds a 4.0 GPA as a member of the national honor society.
