The 8th Annual Union Bank and Trust Roanoke Valley Hokie Club football kickoff event was held Monday at Hotel Roanoke. There was a silent auction, raffle and dinner. Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente was on hand as well asa couple players. With a lot of experience returning on defense, the Hokies are confident entering the 2017 season.
"We're going to lean on those guys heavily. Not just in how they play, but in how they continue to bring the young players along. We're going to play with some young players and we need those older guys to set great examples for the younger players in terms of their work ethic and dedication and perfecting their crafts and hopefully demonstrating some really good leadership," said Hokies head coach Justin Fuente
"I feel like we always have confidence in each other and we continue to push each other just to be the best players that we can out there and just play together and prepare together and get ready for the season," cornerback Greg Stroman said.
"We're all there together, we're all pushing each other. The defense is going to be motivated the offense and the offense is going to be motivated by the defense. So just having everyone on the defensive side coming back it'll be a great year," said Hokies safety Terrell Edmunds.
The Hokies open up their season at FedExField on September 3, against West Virginia.
