Receiving core a strength for the Redskins offense
Washington added Quick and Pryor to the roster this year
RICHMOND, Va. – Another compelling story on the offensive side of the ball for the Redskins is their talented receiving core. It's a group that Coach Jay Gruden and the team feels is one their strengths.
Washington lost two dynamic receivers in DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. In 2016, the two accounted for 33 percent of Kirk Cousins' completions.
But they still have a solid group of playmakers in Ryan Grant, Josh Doctson and Jamison Crowder, who had 67 receptions and seven touchdowns last year.
"Jamison, I think the more opportunities he gets, the better he will be and there's ways to use him in the run game also. There's also ways to get him outside and inside. (He's) just a special guy and special receiver," said head coach Jay Gruden.
With two subtractions from a year ago comes two new additions in Brian Quick and highly touted Terrelle Pryor.
"This year you know we have a very different group, a lot of talented guys. We have depth an like I said before he only thug I'm worried about is being the best player an best teammate I can be to the Redskins and that's really how I feel, so I'm going to keep working hard at that," Pryor said.
As for Josh Doctson, he feels no pressure this season and is looking forward to getting back on the field after being out due to injury his rookie season.
"It's not really first round hype just hype to be Josh Doctson again so that's what I'm looking to do," said Doctson.
At the tight end position, the Redskins are still armed with veterans Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis and Niles Paul. Gruden says the passing game will be a matter of getting everyone involved.
"We just have to do the best we can to utilize the talent we have and let the system take care of the plays and let Kirk Cousins make the decision. Understand that we have weapons across the board that can make plays," Gruden said.
The Redskins will be in Richmond for the next two weeks, with there first preseason game on Thursday Aug 10.
