ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Glenvar High School is keeping the tradition of school spirit alive every year with the selection of the "Highlander of Honor."
The entire school votes on the student they believe encompasses the Highlander spirit, someone who is academically successful and kind to classmates. This year, senior Van Hofman became the 15th student to receive the award.
When asked what the honor feels like, Hofman joked, "It's like being an ex-president. It's pretty neat. I liked a lot of them, so just to know I'm kinda in the same group as them is very nice to know."
Along with the honor comes a kilt. Hofman will wear this costume for several large school events, such as the first home football game of the season, homecoming and graduation.
