Martinsville "night life" shines during late model practice

HIstoric speedway roars to life under the lights

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – Martinsville Speedway will take a giant step next weekend when NASCAR's top late model stock car race. goes under those brand new lights at the historic speedway.   The Valleystar Credit Union 300 open test session Thursday gave everyone a good taste of the night life at Martinsville   The race next Saturday is biggest, richest and most prestigious late model stock car  race in the nation.  The winner gets 25,000 dollars and the grandfather clock in victory lane.  As for the much anticipated lights they have everyone smiling at Martinsville, including track president Clay Campbell.

    "To see all the cars out there running, now..it's pretty special. I don't think we've ever done anything here at Martinsville Speedway that has brought as much attention, as these lights," Campbell says.  "As much enthusiasm, and anticipation for the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 next week and we couldn't be happier to see what we are seeing tonight. It's been a long process, we finally got it done in the spring and its been a long wait  to finally get to September and we are almost there, so it's very gratifying," Campbell said.

    Last year veteran Mike Looney took the checkers, out-dueling Lee Pulliam for the win and the grandfather clock.
