Playing blocks away from the White House on Sunday night, LeBron James took the opportunity to send a message on the court.
During the Cleveland Cavaliers' 106-99 victory over the Washington Wizards, James wore mismatched sneakers. One of the shoes was black and the other white, each with the word "equality" stitched on their backs.
"Equality is all about understanding our rights, understanding what we stand for and how powerful we are as men, as women, black or white or Hispanic," James said following the victory. "It doesn't matter your race or whatever the case may be. This is a beautiful country. We're never going to let one person dictate how beautiful and how powerful we are."
James registered his fourth triple-double in five games with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 15 assists as the streaking Cavaliers won their fifth straight and 18th out of their past 19.
The performance was almost a letdown for James, as he scored 57 points during his last visit to the Wizards in a 130-122 victory on Nov. 3, the second-most of his NBA career.
