Northside wins tournament title over North Cross

William Fleming and Cave Spring advance in K-Guard Classic

ROANOKE, Va. –    Northside's boys basketball depth and experience proved superior to a talented North Cross squad on Friday night. The host Vikings were able to capture the Northside Invitational title 68-56.  Franklin County captured the third place game 57-44 over Blacksburg. Christiansburg claims 5th with a 65-52 win over Giles and Chatham captures the 7th place game by outlasting William Byrd 77-64.

   At the K-Guard Classic in Salem, Wiliam Fleming rallied past Hidden Valley to advance to the finals by a 52-47 count. They will meet Cave Spring, who was a 59-52 winner over Jefferson Forest. Salem defeated Lord Botetourt 64-55 and Broadway handled Floyd Co. 61-33 in consolation action.

   In the Knights Winter Classic, Abingdon edged defending Class 3 state champion Brookville 50-49 in overtime to advance to the title game. They will meet Lord Botetourt there, as coach Chuck Pound's girls were winners over host Cave Spring 57-49. Floyd County defeated George Wythe 54-42 and Chatham slipped past Northside 69-61 in consolation action.
